Tibetan children are largely denied educational opportunity in their own country, due to very restrictive Chinese policies. Many of them escape to India to seek education. We assist the Exile Tibetan Government in India, to impart quality and essential education with free of cost.
Tibetan refugee children that are born outside Tibet, are exposed to infulences regarding their interest in learning areas. Many of them seem to have low or no knowledge about their own mother tongue and unique culture. We are concerned to preserve and promote Tibetan culture and language among among the Tibetan refugee communities all over the world.
Tibet has a rich language. But Tibetan books written on modern developments, is scarce. Therefore Tibetan children don't have much access to up-to-date education using Tibetan language. This leads to lower their interest in learning their own language and many show no keen to study Tibetan. We are here to bridge the gap.
Tibetan refugees are homeless and financially insecured. Thus their living is solely dependent on lowly waged employment which is too conditional. Because of their current residential locations, english and hindi ( in India) are the pre-requists for employment. Therefore, getting proficiency in Tibetan langauge doesn't promise you fair employment. This leads to high unemployment rate within Exile Tibetan community. The disadvantaged majority being the new comers from Tibet. So we urge to build our community stronger and undertake projects to establish self-reliance.
There are many Tibetan refugee families below poverty-line. As the number of Tibetans escaping from Tibet, is getting increased year by year, many among them are out of school age. Some have acquired profiency in Tibetan language and others are totally uneducated. But they equally face hardships in getting employed. Without anywhere to go, they settle into famlies and are struggling to pay the minimal school fees for their children and as well as their living. Tibetan Government in exile has been gratefully providing many of such families but the numbers to large to reach. Tibetan Children's Education Center is one of the few non-governmental charities that is concerned about this issue and seeking international philanthropy to help these needy families.
